Telecommunications Network Administration, Municipality of Heraklion
Network Administration
My cooperation with the Municipality of Heraklion continues with the maintenance and management of its telecommunications networks. The City of Heraklion has developed a reputation as a smart city in both Greece and abroad. One reason for this is the efficient use of new telecommunications technologies. These include the leveraging of the Municipal Fibre Optic Network, the installation and use of an IP telephony Network and the development of the largest free access wireless network in the country. In the past I played a role in the installation and configuration of these networks and now I continue to contribute with their maintenance and management. My role at the municipality includes the administration and management of:
1) A multi-site IP Telephony network which includes a Cisco CUCM IP Telephony server, a CCX Contact Center platform, Unity Voice mail as well as several H.323 and MGCP Gateways and a VoIP provider
2) The largest public Wi-Fi network in the country which currently has over 130 access points offering almost 4TB of traffic to over 13000 unique end users per month
3) Consulting concerning the Municipality’s 80 km metropolitan fiber optic network which supports the above networks in both data and voice and continues to expand offering connectivity services to the public sector.
