The Municipal Wireless Network of Rethymno was designed and implemented covering over 1500 metres of the shoreline and several densely populated city squares and streets. With an average of 15000 unique users per month and over 450 GB of downloads, it is the second largest largest free wireless network in the country. An upgrade in the summer of 2015 increased bandwidth and network usage by close to 80%. Planned upgrades for the summer of 2016 will extend the coverage even further.
