The Municipal Wireless Network of Heraklion was designed and implemented and is continually maintained by me since November of 2007. With over 150 access points, an average of over 30000 unique users and a total download volume of over 4 TB per month, it is the largest free wireless network in the country. Over the course of the first two months of 2016 the network has undergone a radical upgrade involving the installation of over 50 high capacity high speed state of the art access points which has more than doubled double the capacity of the network.
